Rural life
Rural depopulation. I propose giving voice and reflection about this extreme social and economic phenomenon which is currently impacting strongly in Europe and other world territories: There is a continuous exodus from rural areas to large urban environments. In Europe, only 25 percent of inhabitants currently reside in rural areas, while in North America the figure drops to 17 percent. This is because rural centers are experiencing a lack of opportunities, which is affecting these communities' lifestyle by threatening their quality of life and cultural heritage (impoverishment, loss in the basic services offered, loss of economic dynamism, crop abandonment, desertification, and environmental degradation). On the other hand, large cities can also face an increasing number of problems: overpopulation, lower quality of life or higher environmental impact.
